TOTO GALLERY･MA in tokyo presents a second solo exhibition of pritzker prize-winning architects kazuyo sejima and ryue nishizawa. titled ‘architecture & environment’, the new exhibition showcases the duo’s most recent projects undertaken together at SANAA as well as works from their individual studios.

ARCHITECTURE & ENVIRONMENT, A DISTINCTLy SANAA APPROACH

this second solo exhibition at TOTO GALLERY･MA looks specifically at how sejima and nishizawa’s buildings respond to the landscape of any given site. since the pair founded architecture studio SANAA in 1995, they’ve been known for shaping projects with openness, lightness, and transparency — qualities born from their pursuit to open architecture up to both people and the surroundings.

the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through sejima and nishizawa’s characteristic approach with a number of models from their latest projects in japan and around the globe. TOTO GALLERY･MA explains that the buildings are more like mediums through which people’s lives and the environment are interwoven into a single landscape.

kazuyo sejima and ryue nishizawa’s first solo exhibition at TOTO GALLERY･MA was in 2003. with this latest showcase, the tokyo gallery promises a unique insight into the celebrated japanese architects’ ongoing evolution. not only that, but the exhibition also offers architecture geeks the chance to marvel at some beautifully detailed models in a variety of scales and materials.
